Company History

1925 Heishiro Ikeda, established Ikeda Denki Seisakusho.
1929 Reorganized as Showa Musen Kogyo Kabushikigaisha.
1937
SMK's Olympic Model 680 dynamic 4-tube receiver was awarded a prize as an outstanding product in the First Radio Exhibition Contest sponsored by the Japan Radio Association.
1947 Factory was rebuilt at the present site. Restarted as a manufacturer of mechanical parts for electronic appliances.
1962 Listed on the second section of the Tokyo stock exchange (Capital 100million yen).
1963 Toyama Factory established.
1966 Kanagawa Factory established.
1970 Ibaraki Factory established (currently the Hitachi Office).
1973 Terutaka Ikeda was elected as President. Established of SMK Electronic Corp. U.S.A (SMK America) in the United States. Taiwan Showa Electronics Co., Ltd. in Taiwan, and SMK Europe N.V. in Belgium respectively.
1974 Established SMK Brasileira Industria Eletronica Ltda. in Brazil.
1976 Established the Showa Ikeda Memorial Foundation.
1978 Listed on the first sections of the Tokyo stock exchanges. SMK Electronics (H.K.) Ltd. established in Hong Kong.
1979 Opened the SMK-H.K./Singapore Branch in Singapore. (currently SMK Electronics Singapore Pte.Ltd.)
1981 Swiss Francs convertible bonds issued (first time). SMK Manufacturing Inc. established in the United States. Student essays accepted for the First Showa Ikeda Prize Competition.
1982 SMK Manufacturing Inc. established in America.
1984 Toyama New factory (Part of the Toyama Technopolis Plan. Currently the Toyama Office) established. Yamato factory established. SMK Corporate Action Charter established.
1985 Company name changed to SMK Corporation. Construction of the current Head Office completed. SMK Vertrieb GmbH established in Munchen, Germany. First Technical Exhibition held.
1988 SMK (U.K.) Ltd. established in the United Kingdom. SMK Electronica S.A. de C.V. established in Mexico. IRI SMK Corporation established in the Republic of Korea (currently SMK Korea Co.,Ltd.).
1989 SMK Electronics (Malaysia) SDN.BHD established in Malaysia.
1991 Established SMK Toyama Technology Center.
1992 Established Hitachi Factory. SMK Electronics Corp U.S.A. San Jose Office established in the United States.
1995 Established SMK Dongguan Gaobu Factory.
Established SMK Europe N.V., U.K. Branch.
1996 Established SMK Electronics (Shenzhen) CO., Ltd
1997 Established SMK Electronics JKT REP Office.
1998 Established SMK Electronics (Phils.) Corporation.
Established SMK Europe N.V.,German Office.

1999 Gate City Office established in Osaki,Tokyo.
2000 SMK Electronics Corporation U.S.A.Guadalajara Office established. Fifth SMK technical
exhibition "SMK TEXPO 2000" held.
SMK Hungary Kft.established in Hungary.
2001 Construction of the SMK Electronics (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd New Factory completed.
Construction of the SMK Electronics (Phils.) Corporation New Factory completed.
2002 Construction of the SMK Hungary Kft.New Factory completed.
Tetsuya Nakamura assumed the President and COO of the company.
2004 Sixth SMK technical exhibition "SMK TEXPO 2004" held.
2005 Established SMK Electronics Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
2006

Established SMK Europe N.V., Dortmund Office.
Established SMK Electronics Corporation U.S.A., Chicago Office.
Expansion of SMK Korea Co., Ltd., Seoul Sales Office.
Established SMK Electronics Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Beijing Office.

2007 Acquisition of remote control business segments of Interlink Electronics, Inc.
Established Internal Audit Department.
2008 Established SMK Corporation Helsinki office.
Established SMK Electronics Trading (H.K.) Ltd. Shenzhen Office.
Seventh SMK technical exhibition "SMK TEXPO 2008" held.
