Network-capable RF module, FX8000, for remote control developed

We are pleased to announce that we have developed a network-capable RF(Note 1) module with a built-in 2.4 GHz ISM band(Note 2) antenna. This module is intended for applications in remote control units and can erect a PAN (Private Area Network) in them. Its specifics are outlined below.

Remote control units for AV equipment are required in recent years to be capable of controlling multiple pieces of equipment with a single remote control unit (network).

This "network-capable RF module with a built-in 2.4 GHz ISM band antenna" responds to such requirements.

This new product, featuring a two-way communication function by the use of radio frequencies and a networking function, facilitates structuring a PAN with a remote control unit being the core.

Concerning technical development of RF remote control units, this new network-capable RF module is an addition to the previously developed FC8602T, with more coming up for expansion of the remote control unit business.

Press Release No. 829fc
Product Name Network-capable RF Module, model FX8000, with a built-in 2.4 GHz ISM band antenna
Features
  • 1) PAN, with a remote control unit functioning as the core, can be easily structured, taking advantage of the omni-directionality of radio waves. (1-to-n application is possible.)
  • 2) IEE802.15.4 is complied with.
  • 3) The communication middleware adopted is Synkro of Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.
  • 4) The stand-by mode and intermittent reception feature provided help conserve electricity consumption.
  • 5) DSSS(Note 3) employed for the modulation system makes this module highly-resistant to noise and interference.
  • 6) The employment of a radio communication system using the 2.4 GHz ISM band provides equipment with worldwide applicability and helps standardize equipment.
  • 7) Acquisition of qualification for the Japanese Radio Law, FCC(Note 4) and CE(Note 5) is planned. Upon successful acquisition, RF applications do not require individual acquisition of qualification for such standards, which creates shorter lead time for equipment development and lower costs.
  • 8) Compatible with decoded output of various IR communication formats, no change in equipment of application software is necessary, other than substituting previous IR receivers with this module. Equipment designing will thus be simpler.
