SMK Develops Automotive Ethernet Connector Featuring Industry’s Smallest* Width of 8.1mm Product News

SMK has developed the industry's smallest-width Ethernet connector, “SE-R1”, for automotive devices.
In recent years, the automotive industry has seen rapid advancements such as the evolution of autonomous driving technology, integration of advanced in-car entertainment systems, expansion of connectivity features, and simultaneously, the increasing importance of security enhancements. Against this backdrop, the need for advanced data processing and integration capabilities has grown significantly. As one of the key technologies in automotive networking, automotive Ethernet, characterized by its high-speed and high-capacity communication, has become indispensable.
SMK’s new automotive Ethernet connector “SE-R1” is designed for multiple Ethernet lines and connector use within a device. As a result, it achieves an industry’s smallest width of 8.1mm while supporting transmission speeds of 100BASE-T1 (100Mbps) and 1000BASE-T1 (1Gbps).
Furthermore, a full-lock structure with mating locking mechanism ensures robust connectivity, providing automotive-grade durability against the strong vibrations and impacts while driving.
